Urolift: A Minimally Invasive Treatment for Enlarged Prostates

As men age, the prostate gland can enlarge, leading to uncomfortable symptoms such as frequent urination, difficulty starting and stopping, and incomplete emptying of the bladder. While medications and traditional surgical procedures have been the primary methods of treating enlarged prostates, there is now a minimally invasive alternative known as Urolift.

What is Urolift?

Urolift is a minimally invasive procedure that uses small implants to lift and hold the prostate tissue out of the way, allowing urine to flow freely through the urethra. The implants are placed through a small incision in the prostate using a cystoscope, which is a small camera that is inserted through the tip of the penis.

The procedure is performed in our day surgery under light anaesthetic and typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Patients can return home the same day and resume normal activities within a few days.

Benefits of Urolift

Compared to traditional surgical procedures for enlarged prostates, Urolift offers a number of benefits for patients, including:

  • Quick recovery time: Since the procedure is minimally invasive, patients typically experience little discomfort and can return to their normal activities within a few days.

  • Reduced risk of side effects: Unlike medication, which can cause a range of side effects, Urolift has few side effects and is generally well-tolerated by patients.

  • Improved quality of life: Urolift can significantly improve symptoms of an enlarged prostate, such as frequent urination and difficulty urinating, leading to a better quality of life for patients.
