HOLEP

Holmium laser enucleation of prostate

Holmium Laser Enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) is a modern alternative to the standard Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) procedure.

Used to relieve men with urinary problems or outflow obstruction from enlarged prostates.

This is a minimally invasive procedure with no cuts. Using laser power the prostate tissue is removed with precise cutting and careful control of blood vessels.

Advantages of HOLEP

Less blood loss

No size limit, able to operate on very large prostates (prostates >80-100cc traditionally required major open surgery)

Tissue is removed and sent for analysis to ensure no cancer is present, this can't be done with the greenlight laser operation

Discharge and return to everyday activities is often quicker

Chance of recurrence is extremely low

PSA levels generally drop to very low levels after HOLEP procedures
